The Vilcamayu or Urubamaba River begins at the sacred mountain of Ausangate. It represents for us the origin of the water cycle, which is born in glaciers, lakes and lagoons high up where there is no agriculture and where the condors nest.
From there it will flow as male energy to fertilize, mother earth, so she will be able to support life. In its journey, water will flow over every ecosystem, until it will reach the unknown lands of the Amazon. From here it will return by night converted into the Milky Way, (Willcamayu) which is a sacred river. It also replenishes the original sources of waters by returning during the day in the form of a rainbow
The most appreciated land that the sacred river irrigates is known as Sara-allpa corn soils, and those are located between Andahuaylillas and Ollantaitambo. This is the heart-land of the Andean communities where they live and share their culture. Here we visit, specialized weaving communities, such as Chawaytire and Chincheros
